Facegroup indexes the photo sources you connect (local folders, your Apple Photos library, and similar) and runs machine-learning models — face detection and grouping, object and scene recognition, and text recognition (OCR) — to make your library searchable. All of this processing happens locally on your computer using models bundled with the app. Your original photos stay exactly where they already are; Facegroup only creates thumbnails and a local search index, stored in your user Application Support folder.
Facegroup connects to the internet for two narrow, non-photo purposes:
You can use the app fully offline; these checks simply pause until you reconnect.
Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record and handles payment and tax. We never see or store your full payment card details. Lemon Squeezy's handling of your billing information is governed by their own privacy policy.
If you choose to connect a third-party source (for example, Facebook), Facegroup uses the credentials or tokens you provide solely to download your own photos from that service to your device for local indexing. Those credentials are stored locally on your machine and are not transmitted to us.
The privacy commitments above are about the Facegroup app. This website (facegroup.io) is separate: it uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic — which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from — so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes this usage data on our behalf; it does not have access to your photo library or anything inside the app. You can block it with any standard ad/tracker blocker or browser privacy setting without affecting the app in any way.
Facegroup is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, as it does not collect personal information at all.
